Review: Ninja Woodfire Electric Outdoor Oven, Artisan Pizza Maker and BBQ Smoker

Most people, I mean like 99% on the official Ninja website, give the Ninja Woodfire Electric Outdoor Oven a 5-star review. People love its versatility, ease of use, and ability to make excellent food like pizza, bread and smoked meats with its dual function as an oven and smoker. Although some people think the controls could be more intuitive, overall the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

Highlights include excellent quality, quick heating, and consistent results. The overall sentiment is very favorable, with high praise for the Ninja’s value and functionality.

Putting it to the test

The last couple of weeks we’ve given the Ninja Woodfire Oven a thorough test, seeing just how versatile it can be: smoking beef brisket slowly, roasting at high heat, baking, or making artisan and New York pizzas right on the pizza stone.

Design and build quality

The Ninja Woodfire Electric Outdoor Oven is solidly built and looks great. This is our first outdoor oven and first Ninja, and we must say the quality is high. Did I mention the earthy red colour instead of the usual black is a nice touch, and it suits our garden perfectly?

Key features

What sets the Ninja Woodfire Electric Outdoor Oven apart is its wide range of cooking options. It’s incredible how much you can do with this oven. From low and slow smoking to high-heat roasting, gourmet roasting, baking, and cooking artisan pizzas, it covers all the bases.

Woodfire artisan pizza

The Ninja Woodfire Artisan Pizza Maker can reach an impressive 370°C. This intense heat replicates the environment of a brick oven, producing the perfect char, caramelisation, blistering, and crunch for a Neapolitan-style pizza. It cooks an artisan pizza beautifully in just 2.5 minutes.

New York pizza

The Ninja Woodfire Artisan Pizza Maker makes wonderful New York-style pizzas as well due to its high temperature capabilities and even heat distribution, which are key for achieving a crispy crust and evenly cooked toppings. While the size of the oven and pizza stone may limit the pizza to a smaller version, the pizza stone and user-friendly preset cooking programmes make making a home-cooked New York pizza with smoked woodfire flavour so easy. Just make sure you use the NY programme to replicate the style’s signature thin, crisp and chewy texture. Try the Domino fakeaway recipe which I’ve now tried so many times. It makes a perfect New York pizza every single time.

Supermarket pizza

We’ve tested the oven with supermarket pizzas as well, they just taste better as the dough cooks better on the pizza stone compared to a baking tray in a kitchen oven. Obviously when you add woodfire flavour to that as well, there’s just no comparison!

Ease of use

Despite having so many functions, the oven is very intuitive to use. The controls are simple, and once you get familiar with the advanced settings, it’s a breeze to use. It heats up quickly, and adjusting the temperature is as easy as pressing a button and turning a dial.

One thing to note is that the oven gets very hot (especially when you use the pizza function) so good quality gloves and a tool to pull out the rack and pizza stone are essential. Longer tools for handling food would also be helpful.

Second oven

Other than all these brilliant functions of the Ninja Woodfire Electric Outdoor Oven, we also use it as a second oven for Sunday roasts. We only have one oven in the kitchen, so when it comes to making slow roasts like pork belly or lamb shoulder both of which requiring low temperatures, I can never do roast potatoes properly with the meat. Now with the Ninja sitting in the garden, I can use it for either the meat or the potatoes and have a perfect Sunday roast with the meat cooked slow and low and golden roasties cooked at 200°C.

The verdict

The Ninja Woodfire Electric Outdoor Oven is a versatile and dependable addition to any garden and outdoor kitchen. It’s easy to use, and the food it produces is top-notch. Plus, it’s quiet during operation and portable enough to move around as needed.

We were going to get the Woodfire Grill but but at the end decided to go for the Woodfire oven. We didn’t regret it at all. While the Woodfire Grill is better for straightforward grilling, the Woodfire Oven is a multifunctional tool that smokes, grills, bakes, and makes delicious artisan pizzas.

The Ninja really is very good value. It was on offer (£209.99) when we bought directly from Ninja, came with 2 packs of the Ninja Woodfire pellets, a stand and a cover which protects the Ninja from the British weather.

Our Ninja under its covet when it’s not in use

We’re now excited to say that our verdict is: this Ninja is amazing value and it’s totally transformed our outdoor cooking experience.
