What bread to use
I personally prefer white bread but you can use any day-old bread.
What to use these breadcrumbs for

Method
You can dry the bread in an oven before blending it, or just let it sit on the worktop until it’s dry enough to be blended.
Some people prefer to slice off the bread crusts, but I personally prefer to use the crusts as well. Entirely up to you!
- Tear the bread into pieces and bake in a low oven, about 160°C fan, until the pieces are completely dried out. Alternatively, put the bread pieces in the oven after you use the oven for a meal or whenever the oven is on a low setting.
- Drop into a blender and pulse until you have breadcrumbs of the size you want. I like my breadcrumbs quite coarse, so when I use them for deep frying they have a texture similar to panko breadcrumbs. But if you prefer fine breadcrumbs, you can just pulse it for longer until they’re fine enough to your liking.
- Store dried breadcrumbs in a jar or airtight tin for up to a month, or up to two months in a fridge, or up to six months in the freezer.
